cloudware

This definition is part of our Essential Guide: The ultimate guide to cloud-based file sharing
Contributor(s): Kim Hefner

Cloudware is software that runs on a remote Web server rather than on a mobile computing device, personal computer (PC) or traditional on-premises application server.

A cloudware delivery model allows end users to subscribe to an application instead of purchasing it. The advantage of a subscription model is that the end user will always have access to the most up-to-date version of the application.
